5 Keys to save your shoulders when they are painful

 

  1. Play Golf, throw balls - Use your shoulders, don't abuse them

 

Shoulders are very mobile, that is what allows you to freely move your arms, at the same time they are not very stable, and gets hurt very easily.

Not using your shoulders could lead to you losing mobility in the area and stiffen up.

Avoid sudden movements, especially when your shoulders are sore, this is when yu feel that catching sensation in the joint from the tendon rubbing on the bone.

  1. Ice the shoulders to Reduce Pain and Speed-Up Your Recovery

Ice reduces inflammation and numbs the pain, this aids the recovery process.

Apply ice intermittently, especially straight after you   have aggravated the shoulder, for 5 minutes at a time.

  1. Heat application

After the ice application heat will further enhance recovery by increasing the blood flow, bringing nutrients and oxygen into the painful shoulder area.

Heat will also aid in the relaxation of the muscles in the shoulder, because the tendons become more plyable when warm, which is the main reason for warming up for sport events.

 

 

  1. Exercise & stretching

 

Exercise serve as a great recovery tool simply because of increased bloodflow, but also serves a corrective function, i.e. you probably used the shoulders incorrectly which damaged them in the first place.

Stretching helps with the correct position of the shoulder joint

 

  1. Exercise again – movement correction

 

Sorry, exercise again, simply because of our sedentary lifestyles i.e. lack of exercise we become stiff & unable to move correctly.
